Brenda E. McDonald, a retired telephone company employee, died Wednesday of emphysema. She was 54.

Born Brenda E. Brunson in Baltimore in 1941, she was educated in Baltimore public schools and graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in 1958. She worked for what was then Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co. until her illness forced her to retire.

Ms. McDonald was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking. She and her husband were divorced many years ago.

Services were to be at 11:30 a.m. today at Estep Brothers Funeral Service, 1300 Eutaw Place. Visitation was to be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. today.

Ms. McDonald is survived by two children, Indira McDonald and David McDonald; a brother, Spencer Brunson; a sister, Ellen Brunson; two uncles, Herbert Calvin Gross and James Edward Gross; a great-aunt, Queen Victoria Fitzgerald; and two grandchildren. All are of Baltimore.
