DeRichie leads Salisbury over St. Mary's, 110-90 STATE MEN

John DeRichie scored 23 points to lead host Salisbury State over St. Mary's, 110-90, in a Capital Athletic Conference game last night.

Casey Musick added 21 points for the Sea Gulls (9-10, 5-5), who shot 67 percent in the second half and won for the fifth time in their past six CAC games.

Andy Benincasa led the Seahawks (5-11, 2-6) with 28 points and 10 rebounds.

Both teams shot well in the first half, with Salisbury State taking a 52-45 lead at intermission. The Sea Gulls were 22-for-42 from the field and Seahawks were 17-for-29.

St. Mary's, last in the conference in scoring (62.2 ppg), has lost eight in a row to the Sea Gulls.

* Baltimore City CC 105, Chesapeake College 85: Warren Wright scored 24 to lead Baltimore City (14-4) over visiting Chesapeake College.

* Catholic 88, Western Maryland 87: John Douglas scored 32 points and Jeremy Borys added 22 as Catholic (9-8) edged visiting Western Maryland (7-11) in a nonconference game.

Douglas, a senior forward, notched 22 of his game-high total in the second half. Catholic trailed 47-37 at halftime, but quickly erased the deficit by scoring the first 11 points of the second half.

Pat Young (Mount St. Joseph) topped Western Maryland with 22 points.

* Frederick CC 99, Essex CC 87: Anthony Wright (Lake Clifton) scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead Frederick (9-11) over visiting Essex. Walter Wright scored 28 for Essex.

* Centenary College 88, Villa Julie 69: Lance Rose scored 16 points and visiting Centenary College (7-11) handed Villa Julie (1-13) its eighth straight loss.

Villa Julie's Donte Dudley (Woodlawn) led all scorers with 34 points and Kellye Press added 17.

* Gettysburg 56, Johns Hopkins 53: Host Johns Hopkins missed two three-point shots in the last 17 seconds and lost to Gettysburg in a Centennial Conference game.

Sophomore Aaron Bevington scored a career-high 14 for Johns Hopkins. Greg Roehrig had a game-high 13 rebounds for the Blue Jays.

* Virginia Union 90, Bowie State 55: Thomas Meredith scored 20 points as Virginia Union (15-3) defeated host Bowie State (5-13). Warren Wright had 19 points to lead the Bulldogs, who only made 16 of 68 shots (24 percent).

Outlook: Coppin State (6-1 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) has won six straight and leads the league by a half-game over Howard (5-1). The Eagles received their biggest scare at home this season, defeating UMES by four on Thursday. Stephen Stewart scored a game-high 19 points. Howard is led by Art Crowder and Sean Turley.
