Martino helps Thunder to first victory, 17-15

UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- Bob Martino had three goals and two assists to lead the Thunder to a 17-15 victory over the winless New York Saints yesterday for its first victory of the season.

The Thunder (1-2) extended a two-goal halftime lead by going on a 7-0 run midway through the third quarter to forge a 15-8 advantage.

In the fourth quarter, the Thunder was held to eight shots as the Saints (0-3) scored seven of the final nine goals. J. J. Pearl replaced Sal LoCascio in goal, recording seven saves in the final quarter to hold off New York.

The Thunder outshot the Saints, 53-40. Brian Kroneberger had four assists for the Thunder.

7+ Tim Welsh scored twice for the Thunder.
