Coppin State rips UMES, 75-49 STATE WOMEN

Lisa Briggs scored 19 points and added 18 rebounds to lead Coppin State to a 75-49 win over visiting UMES in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball game last night.

The Eagles (9-8, 6-1) used a 15-2 run early in the second half to pull away from UMES. Natasha Parks added 17 points for Coppin State.

Tanya Brown scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Hawks (2-13, 1-8).

* Howard 80, Morgan State 64: Denique Graves scored 23 to lead Howard (8-7, 5-1) over visiting Morgan State (2-13, 2-5) in an MEAC game. Karla Warfield led the Golden Bears with 18 points.

* Canisius 79, Loyola 65: Heather Fiore scored 20, and Canisius (14-4, 6-0) recorded its eighth straight win, downing Loyola (11-5, 2-3) in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game in Buffalo, N.Y.

Patty Stoffey and Camille Joyner both scored 19 to lead Loyola.

* Goucher 66, Catholic 62: Alice Kennedy scored 16 points, leading visiting Goucher over Catholic in a Capital Athletic Conference game.

* Western Maryland 68, Ursinus 67: Erin Murphey (Francis Scott Key) and Sandi DeJager each scored 14 points as Western Maryland (11-3, 7-1) edged visiting Ursinus (11-3, 7-1) in a Centennial Conference game.

* Catonsville CC 72, Penn State-York 67: Kristin Ostlie scored 17 points and Debbie Kasten added 16 to lead visiting Catonsville Community College over Penn State-York.
