Briggs, Coppin down Florida A&M STATE WOMEN

Lisa Briggs scored 27 points and had 14 rebounds, leading host Coppin State to a 73-67 victory over Florida A&M in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game last night.

The Eagles (8-8, 5-1) led 33-20 at halftime as the Rattlers (11-5, 5-2) shot 8-for-32. Angela McPhaul had 22 points to lead Florida A&M.

* Manhattan 78, Loyola 73: Gina Somma scored 29 points and Manhattan (6-11, 2-2) held visiting Loyola (11-4, 2-2) scoreless for the final 4:23 for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victory.

Patty Stoffey led all scorers with 34 points for Loyola, which was outscored 16-0 in the last 4:23.

* Liberty 56, UMBC 53: Keri Johnson banked in a desperation three-point shot with two seconds left to give host Liberty (4-10, 2-4) a Big South Conference win.

UMBC (7-7, 3-2) was led by senior Eunice French (15 points). The Retrievers trailed by as many as 13 points in the second half.

* Goucher 63, St. Mary's 49: Alice Kennedy scored 24 points and Sarah Weaver (Towson) had 17, leading Goucher College past host St. Mary's.

* Bowie State 81, Norfolk State 71: Brandey Lemons scored a game-high 41 points, leading host Bowie State (11-4, 3-0) past Norfolk State (13-3, 3-2) in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association game.

* North Carolina A&T 68, UMES 56: Samara Dobbins scored 17 points, leading visiting North Carolina A&T (9-4, 6-1) past UMES (2-12, 1-7) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game.

* Salisbury State 65, Wesley 51: Kim Roth scored 22 points and had 11 rebounds, leading Salisbury State (11-4) past host Wesley (6-9).
