NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series -- Rusty Glidden will temporarily replace his father, Bob Glidden, while the 10-time Pro Stock champion recovers from heart surgery.

NBA -- Named New York Knicks C Patrick Ewing Player of the Week. Announced the following competitors for the All-Star Saturday Shootaround on Feb. 11: Utah Jazz G Jeff Hornacek (defending champion), New York Knicks G John Starks, San Antonio Spurs F Chuck Person and Phoenix Suns G Wesley Person.

Sacramento Kings -- Announced that C-F Frank Brickowski will undergo surgery to repair a dislocated right shoulder today; he could return to competitive play in six months.

USA Basketball -- Named Carol Callan senior women's national team director and Sean Ford manager of basketball operations.

Bowling

LPBT -- Named Anne Marie Duggan Player of the Year and Tammy Turner Rookie of the Year.

College

Centennial Conference -- Named Johns Hopkins freshman F Greg Roehrig men's basketball Player of the Week.

Midwestern Collegiate Conference -- Announced that La Salle will leave, effective June 30. La Salle is interested in joining the Atlantic 10 or the Colonial Athletic Association. The school said it could also rejoin the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, which it left in 1992 when it moved to the MCC.

Patriot League -- Named Navy's Becky Dowling women's basketball Rookie of the Week.

Barry -- Named Brian Dooley football coach.

Bucknell -- Named Norries Wilson and David Kotulski assistant football coaches.

C. W. Post -- Announced that men's basketball player Eddie Cobb has been ruled academically ineligible for the second semester.

4 James Madison -- Named Alex Wood football coach.

Manchester -- Named David Harms football coach.

Montclair State -- Named Jose Rebimbas men's basketball coach.

San Diego State -- Named Rick Bay AD.

Seton Hall -- Rescinded a letter of intent signed by Richie Parker after he pleaded guilty to charges of sexual abuse.

Vanderbilt -- Named Woody Widenhofer, a Cleveland Browns assistant, defensive coordinator. Named Perry Fewell defensive line coach; he had been at Army.

Football

Carolina Panthers -- Named Dom Capers coach and Joe Pendry offensive coordinator.

Chicago Bears -- Named Willie Peete running backs coach.

Jacksonville Jaguars -- Named Larry Pasquale, the Philadelphia Eagles' special teams coordinator last season, to the same position.

New Orleans Saints -- Named New York Jets assistant Steve Trimble (Maryland) to the defensive coaching staff to handle general assignments.

New York Jets -- Named Tom Gamble, a Philadelphia scout and son of Eagles president Harry Gamble, an assistant coach for quality control.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers -- Named Rusty Tillman defensive coordinator.

Golf

Walker Cup -- Announced that the biennial competition between top amateurs from the United States and the British Isles will be played at Nairn Golf Club in Scotland in 1999.

Hockey

Los Angeles Kings -- Recalled G Pauli Jaks and D Sean O'Donnell from IHL Phoenix.
