Colorado Rockies -- Named Roger Kinney executive director of the team's Baseball Club Foundation and Charity Fund.

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Announced they have purchased the contract of OF Nolan Lane from Sioux City of the Northern League.


NBA -- Suspended Olden Polynice of Sacramento and Rod Strickland, Clyde Drexler, Mark Bryant, Harvey Grant, Jerome Kersey and James Edwards of Portland one game each for their roles in a fight during a game Tuesday night, and fined Polynice and Strickland $5,000 each.

Cleveland Cavaliers -- Named Larry Nance special assistant coach.

Detroit Pistons -- Activated C Mark West from the injured list.

Golden State Warriors -- Announced that partners Jim Fitzgerald and Dan Finnane made the sale of their 75 percent ownership of the team to Christopher Cohan, making him sole owner. Placed F Chris Mullin on the injured list. Activated F Carlos Rogers from the injured list.

New Jersey Nets -- Placed G Sleepy Floyd on the injured list. Activated G Sean Higgins from the injured list.

Portland Trail Blazers -- Placed G Aaron McKie on the injured list.


L Arizona State -- Named John Pettas assistant football coach.

L Iowa State -- Named Jerry Azzinaro assistant football coach.

Kentucky -- Named Elliot Uzelac offensive coordinator.

Salisbury State -- Announced that senior F Kyle Jefferson (Hammond) has been named ECAC South Region Player of the Week for the fourth consecutive week; announced that senior C Kim Roth, who went over the 1,000-point career scoring mark last week, was named to the ECAC honor roll.


Denver Broncos -- Announced QB John Elway will replace Miami's Dan Marino as the AFC starter in the Pro Bowl.

L Houston Oilers -- Named Larry Beightol offensive line coach.

Jacksonville Jaguars -- Signed LB Ryan McCoy and SS Vidal Mills, to bring their roster to 32 players.

Los Angeles Raiders -- Named Joe Bugel senior assistant coach and offensive line coach.


NHL -- Reduced the suspensions of Vancouver LW Gino Odjick from 10 games to six and Vancouver coach Rick Ley from five games to three.

New York Islanders -- Assigned F Yan Kaminsky to Denver of the International Hockey League.

Philadelphia Flyers -- Called up D Chris Therien from Hershey of the American Hockey League. Sent D Stewart Malgunas and D Jeff Finley to Hershey.

Pittsburgh Penguins -- Recalled F Len Barrie and G Ollie Sundstrom from Cleveland of the International Hockey League.

St. Louis Blues -- Assigned G Geoff Sarjeant, D Terry Hollinger, D Craig Johnson, F Patrice Tardif and F Denny Felsner to Peoria of the International Hockey League.
