Joynes is controller, vice president at bank

Cynthia M. Joynes has been named vice president and controller at Taneytown Bank & Trust Co.

Ms. Joynes of Ellicott City will be responsible for the accounting division. Previously, she was a senior audit manager for seven years with the accounting firm of KPMG Peat Marwick in Baltimore.

She holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Maryland College Park.

Bank chooses Seidel for board of directors

Dr. Ethan A. Seidel, vice president of administration and finance and a part-time professor at Western Maryland College, has been chosen to serve on the board of directors at Union National Bank.

He will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Harvey B. Bair.

Dr. Seidel has been a professor of economics at the college since 1969.

He has won the college's Distinguished Teaching Award twice, in 1981 and in 1991, and has twice served as president of Western Maryland's chapter of the American Association of University Professors.

He received national recognition in 1982 when he won the Leavey Award, given for innovation in economic education.

Dr. Seidel has a bachelor's degree from the Johns Hopkins University, a master's in business administration from the Wharton School of University of Pennsylvania and a doctorate from Johns Hopkins.
