County police arrested a Rolling Knolls man Friday night in a shooting at the Woodside Apartments in which a 16-year-old Glen Burnie youth narrowly escaped injury, authorities said.

Quentin Terrill Smith, 18, of the 600 block of Wayward Drive, was charged with assault with intent to murder and reckless endangerment. Police arrested him at his home after Terry Gaither, 16, picked him out of a photo lineup, police said.

The shooting occurred about 8:30 p.m. Terry, of the 7900 block of Allard Court, was standing in a group in front of the apartment complex in the 600 block of Hallmark Drive when four youths drove up in a white Nissan Sentra. Two occupants of the car armed with handguns got out.

One of them fired a shot from a .38-caliber pistol into the air and then one round into the crowd. He fired another round at Mr. Gaither as the youth scrambled for cover and missed him, police said.
