Cabbie beaten, robbed by passenger

A cabdriver was beaten and robbed after she picked up a passenger at the Town Center Shopping Center in Laurel early Monday, Howard County Police said.

Police said the cab ride went smoothly at first. But at 1:10 a.m., after the driver took the male passenger to the Whiskey Bottom Shopping Center, the man grabbed her by the hair. He struck her twice in the face and demanded money while threatening to cut her throat, police said.

When the driver turned over $85, the man fled with the cash. He was described as black, in his 20s, standing 6 feet tall and weighing 200 pounds. He wore a black leather jacket, black gloves and dark jeans, police said.


* North Laurel: 9700 block of Covered Wagon Drive: Someone forced open a house's front door and stole a camcorder and other electronic items Monday, police said.

* Scaggsville: 7000 block of Best Times Path: A dishwasher was stolen from a house under construction Monday, police said.

6300 block of Morning Time Lane: Thieves entered a construction trailer and took a ladder and telephones between Friday and Monday, police said.
