County police have arrested two men in connection with the attempted robbery of an Odenton carryout shop and also charged one of them with robbing an Odenton bank in December and attempting to rob an Odenton gas station Thursday, authorities said.

Jeffrey Alan Potter, 23, of the 1300 block of Farrara Drive in Odenton and Johnny Ray Barnes, 22, of the 1100 block of Reece Road in Severn were charged with assault with intent to rob in the incident Friday afternoon at the C & M Carry-Out in the 400 block of Higgins Drive.

Mr. Barnes was being held at the Detention Center on $350,000 bail. Mr. Potter, who is charged in the bank robbery and the attempted gas station robbery in addition to the attempted robbery at the carryout, was being held on $900,000 bail, police said. Both men are scheduled for bail review hearings today. Police filed the additional charges against Mr. Potter after questioning him at Western District station.

Two men armed with handguns walked into the carryout Friday and announced a robbery but ran from the store when several customers walked in, police said. Several Western District officers searched for the suspects, who were caught after a brief foot chase.

A man walked into the Odenton Federal Savings Bank, in the 1200 block of Annapolis Road, shortly after noon Dec. 9 wearing a belt with several flares that looked like dynamite sticks. He told a teller the sticks were a bomb and ordered the teller to put money into a backpack. After the teller complied, he fled in a stolen car, police said.

Thursday, a man walked into a Mobil station in the 1400 block of Annapolis Road about 8 p.m. and pulled the pin from a hand grenade. He threatened to kill everyone if he wasn't given money, but the clerk refused and the man ran from the store, police said.
