Loyola no problem for Canisius

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Michael Meeks scored 19 points and had nine rebounds to lead Canisius to a 79-65 victory over Loyola in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game yesterday.

Darrell Barley scored a game-high 21 points and Craig Wise had 17 for the Golden Griffins (8-6, 1-0). Wise also had a game-high 10 rebounds.

Canisius took a 23-9 lead after a 14-0 run in which Wise scored six points. The Golden Griffins held a 41-23 halftime lead.

The Greyhounds (5-9, 1-1) challenged Canisius in the second dTC half, using an 18-7 run to cut it to 48-41 with 11:27 left.

Loyola got as close as 52-46 with 8:41 to go after a free throw by David Credle, but it never cut the lead lower than nine the rest of the way.

Teron Owens (Catonsville) had a career-high 14 points for the Greyhounds. Virgil Wallace contributed 12 points.
