Atlanta Braves -- Made a qualifying offer to SS Jeff Blauser equal to 100 percent of his 1994 salary.

Cleveland Indians -- Named Jack Mull coach of Triple-A Buffalo; Greg Booker pitching coach and Joe Mikulik player-coach for Double-A Canton-Akron; Gordie MacKenzie manager, Tony Arnold pitching coach and Dan Williams coach for Single-A Kinston; Jeff Datz manager of Single-A Columbus, Ga.; Joel Skinner manager of Single-A Watertown; and Harry Spilman manager of Rookie-level Burlington.

Kansas City Royals -- Named Gene Mauch bench coach.

Los Angeles Dodgers -- Announced that they will not offer contracts to P Orel Hershiser, OF Mitch Webster and OF Cory Snyder.

San Diego Padres -- Received minor-league IF Chad Tredaway from the Cubs as compensation for Chicago's signing of manager Jim Riggleman. Named Duane Espy minor-league hitting instructor.

San Antonio Spurs -- Placed C Moses Malone on the injured list.

NCAA -- Informed Baylor that it is looking into allegations of misconduct in the men's basketball program.

Akron -- Named David Snowball defensive coordinator and Mark Murphy assistant football coach.

Alabama-Birmingham -- Named George Pugh receivers coach.

Ball State -- Named women's AD Andrea Seger director of both the men's and the women's programs.

Colorado -- Announced that Karl Dorrell, receivers coach at Colorado in 1992 and 1993, will return as offensive coordinator.

Malone College -- Selected offensive coordinator Mike Gravier to be the football coach.

Memphis -- Named William B. Scherer football coach.

Nevada-Las Vegas -- Announced that basketball PG Lawrence Thomas has decided to transfer to Duquesne.

Pacific -- Announced that it will maintain its NCAA Division I-A athletic status after months of speculation that the school was studying a lower level.

Texas -- Named Mike Deal offensive line coach.

Washington State -- Suspended basketball starters Donminic Ellison and Tavares Mack one game for violating team rules.

Cincinnati Bengals -- Named John Garrett assistant coach.

Cleveland Browns -- Signed RB Leroy Hoard to a series of one-year contracts.

Detroit Lions -- Announced that they will not exercise their option on LB Pat Swilling, making him an unrestricted free agent. Named John Teerlinck assistant head coach. Announced that they will not offer new contracts to defensive line coach Lamar Leachman and tight ends coach Dave Jaumotte. Announced the retirement of running backs coach Billie Matthews.

Jacksonville Jaguars -- Signed RB Leon Brown, C Chris Dausin, LB Gonzalo Floyd, WR John Morton and TE Greg Schorp.

New Orleans Saints -- Announced the resignation of linebackers coach Vic Fangio.

Pittsburgh Steelers -- Deactivated RB Anthony Daigle, S Gary Jones, TE Craig Keith and LB Eric Ravotti.

Edmonton Eskimos (CFL) -- John Ramsey resigned as president to run for mayor of Edmonton, Alberta.

Hockey

New York Islanders -- Announced the retirement of F Brian Mullen, who will remain with the team in a variety of capacities. Recalled F Zigmund Palffy from IHL Denver. Recalled F Brett Lindros from OHL Kingston.

Soccer

Milwaukee Wave (NPSL) -- Signed M Jeff Gold to a one-year contract.
