Western Md. falls in OT, 97-94 STATE MEN LTC

Orick Smith scored eight of his 17 points in overtime to lift Beaver College of Pennsylvania (10-0) to a 97-94 win over Western Maryland (5-8) in a nonconference game last night.

Smith hit two free throws with 16 seconds left to give the Scarlet Knights, the fourth-ranked team in the NCAA Division III Middle Atlantic region, a 95-91 lead. After Pat Young (Mount St. Joseph) made a three-pointer with 10 seconds remaining to bring Western Maryland to within one, Smith connected on two more foul shots at the six-second mark.

* St. Mary's 87, Mary Washington 77: Steve Michelotti scored 20 points and added six rebounds to lead visiting St. Mary's (4-7, 1-2) in a Capital Athletic Conference game.
