Mount Airy fire unit recognizes officers

The Mount Airy Volunteer Fire Company recently had its 69th installation, awards banquet and dance at the Mount Airy American Legion Post 191.

Awards were:

* Rookie of the Year: Jerry Shaw for completing 240 hours of training and responding to 428 calls.

* Firefighter of the year: C. J. Hamilton for responding to 667 calls, plus many fund-raising, training and work hours.

* Line officer's award: Bob Dixon for outstanding work around the fire station.

* EMS award: Tom Boro for completing paramedic training and answering 451 calls.

* Chief's award: Bruce Walz for assisting the line officers in their administrative duties.

* President and chief's award: Alan Siegrist for his efforts in training and responding to calls and work around the station.

* President's award: Granville Albright for many hours of compiling report records.

* Life members: Kenneth Fleming and Robert Riddle Moser.

The Carroll County Board of Commissioners honored J. Edward Chaney with a certificate of appreciation for 50 years of volunteer service to the county.

Recognition was given to several community organizations that presented cash donations to the fire company, and to the ladies auxiliary, which bought a $78,000 medic unit and raised an additional $30,000 for the company.

The 1995 officers are: president, Ricky Baker; first vice president, Bill Lawton; second vice president, Richard Wotthlie; secretary, Susan Hubble; assistant secretary, Eleonore Barritt; financial secretary, Ann Ward; treasurer, James Linton; assistant treasurer, Janet Kipe.

Line officers are: chief, Dale Lowman; first assistant chief, Doug Alexander; second assistant chief, Gene Mellin; captain 1-1, Bruce Walz; Captain 1-2, Kenny Stull; lieutenant 1-1, Jim Crum; lieutenant 1-2, Charles Hamilton; lieutenant 1-3, Mike Pappas.

Emergency Medical Services officers are: captain, Tom Bobo; lieutenant 1-1, Becky Brown; lieutenant 1-2, Bill Lawton; lieutenant 1-3, Jerry Shaw.

Board of Managers are: Thomas Fleming, Kenny Fogle, Chris Barritt, Doug Alexander, Pat Holmes and Don Brightwell.
