Brian P. Gettings, 61, a lawyer and U.S. attorney who helped draft national anti-racketeering legislation, died of throat cancer Wednesday at his home in Annandale, Va. He was the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia from 1969 to 1974. Earlier in the 1960s, he was a counsel and staff director of the House Republican Conference Task Force on Crime and a consultant to the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration. He worked on drafting the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.

Frances E. Williams, 89, an actress and producer who promoted black theater 'in Los Angeles for more than 70 years, died Jan. 2 of complications from a stroke.
