Francis Scott Key used a team effort to pin down two victories yesterday at Oakland Mills.

The second-ranked Eagles got pins from their first three wrestlers and victories from their first six on the way to a 41-24 decision over Williamsport. Pins from its final six wrestlers later sparked Francis Scott Key to a 52-21 victory over No. 15 Oakland Mills.

Williamsport (4-3, 2-1) had trouble with the host Scorpions, as Oakland Mills (6-3) scored five pins in its 43-27 victory.

But the Eagles turned the tables against Oakland Mills in the final match. Francis Scott Key has relied on its lower weights for much of the season, but the upper weights came through against the Scorpions.

Against Key, Oakland Mills won four of the first seven matches. The Scorpions used the seventh pin of the season from Chris Naylor (103, 13-1), a decision from John Nguyen (125) and a pin by Wade Mitchell (12-0, seven pins) at 130.

After Steve Lessard (135, 13-1) of Key pinned Matt Sutton at 4:40, Oakland Mills' Casey Moffett (140, 12-1) gave his team a 21-16 lead with a pin of Gene Murray -- his 10th of the season.

But Key took over after that. Defending state champion Randy Owings (145, 13-1) pinned Kurt Ricketts at 2:45 for a 22-21 lead. J.T. Chiaruttini (152) scored a pin against Josh Crickard at 3:08.

With defending state champion Zac Yinger looming at 160, Oakland Mills coach Brian Chadwick bumped everyone up one weight class. But the Eagles steamrollered the Scorpions with pins from Yinger (12-0, seven pins), Robert Buntin (171), Bobby Bollinger (189) and heavyweight John Frech.

Chadwick said Oakland Mills is strong in the lower weights, and that Francis Scott Key simply took advantage of its opportunities in the upper weights.

"I was real happy to have kept it that close," said Chadwick. "They're just strong all the way through."

In addition to the victory over Williamsport, a quick pin from Bryan Frizzelle was a highlight for Oakland Mills. Frizzelle (189) tied a school record in his weight class by pinning Marlin Mayers from Williamsport in only 11 seconds.
