S.C. State handles Morgan, 83-61

ORANGEBURG, S.C. -- Derrick Patterson scored a game-high 22 points and pulled down eight rebounds, leading South Carolina State to an 83-61 victory over winless Morgan State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game yesterday.

The Bulldogs (3-8, 1-1) outscored the Bears in the second half 52-31, turning a 31-30 halftime lead into a rout. S.C. State's Jay Joyner added 19 points and seven rebounds.

Brandon Battle's 14 points led Morgan (0-10, 0-1), which is 0-9 on the road this season and has lost 50 of its past 52 nonconference games.
