GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Coppin State's 32-game Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular-season unbeaten streak came to an end last night when North Carolina A&T defeated the Eagles, 61-59, at the Corbett Center.

John Floyd led the Aggies (2-5, 1-0), last season's MEAC tournament champions, with 15 points. Keith Carmichael and Tariq Saunders scored 12 points each for Coppin State.

The Eagles (3-8, 0-1) had rallied from 19 points down to take a 54-51 lead on a pair of free throws by Allen Watson with 4:44 to play.

But Floyd scored five straight points to put his team ahead before Sidney Goodman tied the game at 56-56 with 2:01 left.

The Aggies took the lead for good when guard Phillip Allen hit a jumper with 1:27 to play and the Eagles failed to convert on their next two possessions. Floyd hit another basket with 20 seconds left to make the score 60-56.

The Eagles' last regular-season conference loss was to the Aggies in the 1991-92 regular-season finale, 70-67.

Coppin started slow, missing 14 of its first 17 shots. The Aggies, meanwhile, hit nine of their first 11 to take a 23-6 lead.
