Charm City Classic set for Jan. 27-28

Five teams ranked in the USA Today Super 25 will be on display at the First National Bank Charm City Classic on Jan. 27-28 at Loyola College's Reitz Arena.

Lake Clifton, the area's No. 1 team and ranked 13th nationally, will face No. 10 Abraham Lincoln of New York in a Southeast bracket first-round game at 8:45 p.m. on Jan. 27. The winner will meet the winner of the other Southeast bracket first-round game 7 between Dunbar, ranked No. 2 in the area, and St. Anthony of Jersey City, N.J.

In the Northwest bracket, defending national champion Oak Hill Academy of Virginia, ranked No. 1 in the country, will meet Calvert Hall, ranked No. 7 in the area, at 3:30. At 5:15, Paterson Catholic of New Jersey, ranked No. 14 nationally, will meet No. 5 St. John's Prospect Hall of Frederick.

The Northwest bracket final will be played the next night at 7, followed by the Southwest bracket title game at 8:45. The consolation games will be at 3:30 for the Northwest bracket and 5:15 for the Southeast.

On Jan. 26, three preliminary games will feature four of the area's top 20 teams. At 5, No. 8 Broadneck will meet No. 10 Cardinal Gibbons. No. 5 Southwestern will play Thomas Johnson of Frederick at 6:45 and No. 4 St. Frances will meet Laurel Baptist, ranked No. 14 by the Washington Post.

Tickets for the Jan. 26 session are $5 for adults. All children 12 and under will be admitted free and presented with a Charm City Classic T-shirt when accompanied by a ticket-paying adult. Tickets for the Jan. 27-28 games are $8, $10, $12 and $15 and are available at participating area schools and the Loyola College ticket office.
