Melba Chambers scored 18 points yesterday as host and No. 4 St. Frances (10-2) held off a late rally to beat the Institute of Notre Dame, 49-42.

* Western 68, Edmondson 22: Kimberly Smith scored 14, including the 1,000th of her career, for host and No. 1 Western.

* Lake Clifton 85, Walbrook 22: DaShawn Coleman scored 24 to lead No. 3 and host Lake Clifton (5-1).

* St. Mary's 62, Spalding 44: Kris Miller scored 22 to lead host and No. 5 St. Mary's (9-5).

* Old Mill 60, Glen Burnie 37: Tinnell Slade and Kerri Eland both scored 14 points as host and No. 7 Old Mill (7-2) won.

* Severna Park 55, Southern-AA 28: Junior Jennifer Holmes scored 19 to lead No. 8 Severna Park (8-1) over host Southern-AA (2-5).

* Towson 67, Overlea 9: Katie Walker scored 17 as host and No. 11 Towson (6-0) won.

* Mount de Sales 57, John Carroll 40: Amy Buck scored 21 to lead the No. 15 Sailors (9-3).

* Loch Raven 78, Western Tech 9: Kelley Powell had 22 points and Robin Harry had 12 assists for visiting and No. 18 Loch Raven (6-2).

* North County 43, Meade 34: T.C. Horney scored 10 as host North County (4-5) won.

* Forest Park 52, Dunbar 40: Christina Savage scored 16 and added 17 rebounds, nine assists and 10 steals for the host Foresters (4-1).
