Dunbar's 149 may be record

January 07, 1995|By From Staff Reports

No. 2 Dunbar scored what is believed to be a state record for points by a boys basketball team, defeating Forest Park, 149-69, yesterday.

The host Poets (8-0) had eight players in double figures, led by Marvis Thornton with 27 and Tommy Polley with 20. Forest Park's Charles Owens had a game-high 35.

The 149 points is far from the national record of 211 but is believed the most scored by a state team since St. John's-Prospect Hall's 137-17 win over Cumberland Valley Christian (Pa.) in 1992.
