A Berrett-area man is being held in lieu of $75,000 bond after he was arrested on suspicion of driving 82 miles per hour in a 50 mile per hour zone and failing to complete four field tests for driving while intoxicated on Liberty Road yesterday morning.

Jeffrey Shannon Irvine, 19, of the 6300 block of Wild Lake Drive was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of the drug and paraphernalia and two handgun violations. He also was charged with speeding and a license restriction violation.

Tfc. N. J. Over said in charging papers that he was sitting on Liberty Road when a 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck sped past him about 12:20 a.m. Thursday. The trooper said he started after the vehicle eastbound toward Baltimore County and, using a Vascar speed calculator, clocked the truck at 82 miles an hour.

The charging document said the truck pulled into a driveway in the 10400 block of Liberty Road and the driver got out of the vehicle as the trooper pulled behind him. Trooper Over said the man had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. The driver failed four field sobriety tests and was arrested.

As the trooper started to search the truck, he said, the driver told him there was marijuana in the glove box. Two clear bags of the suspected drug and a pipe with suspected marijuana residue were found there. The trooper found a .22 caliber bullet on the seat next to the driver's position.

A .22 caliber semi-automatic pistol was discovered under the driver's seat, the trooper said.
