WASHINGTON -- First lady Hillary Rodham Clinton has offered Newt Gingrich's mother an earful -- on a private White House tour.

White House staffers slipped Mr. Gingrich a personal note from the first lady during his meeting with President Clinton and congressional leaders yesterday.

Inside was an invitation for the House speaker and his mother, Kathleen Gingrich, to visit the White House and get a behind-the-scenes tour, with Mrs. Clinton as guide.
