CHICAGO -- Sherell Ford's 29 points and 15 rebounds led Illinois-Chicago to a 69-56 nonconference victory over Coppin State last night.

Coppin (3-7) took a 15-6 lead, but Illinois-Chicago (5-4) trimmed the advantage to two by halftime and used a 9-0 spurt at the start of the second half to pull away.

The Flames did an effective job defensively, shutting down Stephen Stewart and Keith Carmichael.

Stewart was held to nine points on 4-for-15 shooting. Carmichael went scoreless in 30 minutes and missed his eight three-point tries.
