A Brooklyn man has been arrested in connection with a car theft Dec. 28 in Baltimore in which a Cumberland man was shot, state police reported. State police arrested Andrew Lee Gardner Jr., 18, of the 3700 block of Margaret St. Friday after following the stolen vehicle, a gray Oldsmobile, into an apartment complex in Glen Burnie.

The driver fled on foot after police trapped the car at a dead end on Glen Ridge Court. State police said the suspect was captured after a search and a foot chase through the complex.

A handgun was recovered inside a boat where a man was seen hiding during the search.

Jeffrey Allen Newberger, 29, of Cumberland was wounded when his car was stolen Dec. 28. Mr. Newberger identified the suspect from photographs shown him in his hospital bed, police said.

Police also lodged theft charges against Casey Michele Fefel, 20, of the 4200 block of Audrey Ave. in Baltimore and four juveniles, all of whom were in the stolen car when it was stopped.
