Mount beats W. Carolina, 86-76 STATE WOMEN

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Nicole Schroyer recorded a double-double, scoring a team-high 17 points and grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds to lead Mount St. Mary's (3-4) to an 86-76 consolation victory over Western Carolina (3-4) in the Marriott Classic yesterday.

DTC The victory gave coach Bill Sheahan his 300th career win and ended a two-game losing streak. Sheahan became the 38th active major-college women's coach to reach the 300-victory milestone.

Western Carolina tied the game at 73 with 3:31 remaining after holding the Mountaineers without a point for almost three minutes. The Mountaineers responded, scoring the next nine points.

The Mountaineers gained their first significant lead of the game, 31-23, with an 8-1 run led by Shari DeLaney's three-pointer at 8:18.

The Mountaineers tightened up on defense, holding the Catamounts without a field goal over the last three minutes of the first half and taking a 46-35 lead at the half.
