Silver Run woman dies in crash

An 80-year-old Silver Run woman was killed Friday when an automobile driven by her husband was struck by a truck on Route 32 at Freedom Avenue.

Margaret Dutterer of the 1600 block of Mayberry Road was pronounced dead at the scene of the 11:30 a.m. accident by Dr. Richard Jones, associate medical examiner for Carroll County, Her body was taken to the state medical examiner's office in Baltimore for an autopsy.

Tfc. George Noyes said Alvin Dutterer, 84, was driving his 1986 Chevrolet north on Sykesville Road and started to turn left onto Freedom Avenue in front of a southbound tow truck driven by Melvin Bowman of Hanover, Pa.

The truck hit the rear passenger side of the car, where Mrs. Dutterer was sitting.

A 14-year-old boy riding in the front right seat of the car was taken to Carroll County General Hospital for an examination and treatment after complaining of neck and back pains. Police did not release his name. Fire officials said his injuries did not appear to be serious.

Investigators said they would consult with the state's attorney's office on possible charges.
