He told the clerks to empty the cash register, then ordered them into a back storage room, police said.
The suspect was described as a male, 28 to 30 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall and with a medium build.
He was last seen wearing a blue flannel shirt, blue jeans and a black stocking cap, police said.
Pumphrey man beaten after argument
A Pumphrey man was beaten and stomped tomorrow afternoon during an argument over a stolen stereo, police said.
Byron L. Hill, 23, of the first block of Henson Ave. received minor cuts but did not go to the hospital, police said.
Mr. Hill was arguing with a man at Hoffman and Berlin avenues about 5:30 p.m.
He was checking a rumor that the man had stolen a stereo from Mr. Hill's car, police said. During the argument, a second man, described as a friend of the first man, walked up and punched Mr. Hill in the face several times, knocking him to the ground, police said.
Both men then kicked Mr. Hill in the head and body before a friend broke up the fight and took him home.
