Christmas church services feature music, candlelight

Merry Christmas! My family joins me in wishing you a joyful and festive holiday. As we celebrate the miracle of Christmas, let us do as Charles Dickens wrote in "A Christmas Carol": "I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year."

Churches in our area have planned glorious services for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and the churches welcome you and your family at their celebrations.

St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fulton will have Christmas Eve services at 7:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. The services will include Holy Eucharist, with carols and candles. St. Paul's will have a service of Holy Communion on Christmas Day, with carols and scripture readings at 11 a.m. St. Paul's is a mile west of U.S. 29 on Route 216 in Fulton. St. Louis Catholic Church in Clarksville has seven Masses Christmas Eve and five Masses Christmas Day. Christmas Eve Masses will be at 4 p.m., 6 p.m., and 8 p.m. in both the church and the school auditorium. There will be a Midnight Mass in the church. Christmas Day Masses are at 8 a.m., 9:15 a.m. and 11 a.m., and 12:30 p.m. in the church, and at 11 a.m. in the chapel. Call 531-6040.

Jennings Chapel and Poplar Springs United Methodist Churches will worship at 7 p.m. Christmas Eve and 10 a.m. Christmas Day at Jennings Chapel.On Christmas Day, members of Lisbon United Methodist Church will attend services at Jennings Chapel. Phone 489-7185.

Shepherd of the Glen Lutheran Church will have a 7:30 p.m. Candlelight Communion Celebration of Christ's Birth on Saturday. Members will worship at 10 a.m. Sunday with a Holy Communion service in a liturgy of lessons and carols. Call 442-1204.

St. Andrew's Episcopal Church worship at Union Chapel will celebrate Christmas with a 3 p.m. Children's Creche Service for children 3 to 6 years old. At 5 p.m. they will have a Christmas Nativity Pageant and Holy Eucharist. At 10 p.m., church members will gather for Christmas Carols for Congregation and Choir, and at 10:30 p.m. they will celebrate the Festival Holy Eucharist. On Christmas Day, the church will have a 10 a.m. Holy Eucharist Service. Call 489-4035.

vTC St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Mission will have a children's Mass at 4 p.m. Christmas Eve and an 8 p.m. Christmas Eve Mass. Christmas Day Mass will be at 10 a.m. St. Francis conducts services in the auditorium at Atholton High School. Call 792-0470.

Members of Calvary Lutheran Church on Old Frederick Road in Woodbine invite you to join them for candlelight services Christmas Eve. At 4 p.m., Kris Snyder will play harp accompanied by flute, and the congregation will join ina Holy Communion service with the Festival Choir. At 7:30 p.m., they will have a family service with music by the Joyful Noise Children's Choir. At 11 p.m., they will celebrate with a Holy Communion service with the Senior Choir. At 10 a.m. Christmas Day, they will have a service of Holy Communion. Call 489-5280.

Glenelg United Methodist Church will have a 6:30 p.m. family candlelight service, a 10:30 p.m. bell choir service, and an 11 p.m. service of Nine Lessons and Carols. The Glenelg United Methodist Christmas Day Service will be at 11 a.m. Call 489-7260.

Gethsemane Baptist Church in Glenwood will have an 8 p.m. Christmas Eve family service titled "Carols by Candlelight" and an 11 a.m. service Christmas Day. Phone 442-5853.

Linden Linthicum United Methodist Church in Clarksville will have two family services Christmas Eve at 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. with candlelight and music. Christmas Day service will be at 11 a.m. Call 531-5653.

Lisbon United Methodist Church will have Christmas Eve Candlelighting services at 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. The early service is for families; the 11 p.m. service is a traditional Scripture and Carols service. On Christmas Day, Lisbon United Methodist will join the congregation of Jennings Chapel Church. Call 489-7245.

What do you call two fourth-graders who give up their recess time to work on an ornament for the holiday tree at the Board of Education? At Pointers Run Elementary School they call Jessica Rafferty and Brittany Kompare talented and terrific, according to Principal Andy Barsinger. Jessica and Brittany's colorful ceramic rendering of the front of their school is on display at the Board of Education building through this month.
