Volunteers sought to help with taxes

December 11, 1994

The Harford County Tax-Aide program, sponsored by the American Association of Retired Persons, needs volunteers who are interested in being trained as tax counselors for the Internal Revenue Service's Tax Counseling for the Elderly and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance programs.

Counselors will provide free assistance and preparation of 1994 income tax forms for seniors, low- to moderate-income people and the handicapped.

Training will be from Jan. 3 to Jan. 20 at Harford Community College. The service will be available to the public beginning Feb. 1.

Volunteers need no professional experience, but they should be familiar with their own tax returns. Those who complete the 32-hour classroom training course will be expected to volunteer about four hours a week.
