Upper Chesapeake Health buys 25 acres, may build hospital

December 11, 1994|By From Staff Reports

Upper Chesapeake Health System, a medical-management group affiliated with the Johns Hopkins Health System, has purchased 25 acres at Route 24 and West MacPhail Road as a potential site for a medical office building or hospital.

"It could be used for a wide variety of health-related services, up to and including a hospital or nursing home," said Alan Acton, an Upper Chesapeake vice president.

He would not disclose the price of the parcel.

Upper Chesapeake is the parent company of Harford County's two hospitals, Fallston General and Harford Memorial in Havre de Grace. The nonprofit organization wants to close Fallston General, reduce the size of Harford Memorial and build a new hospital.

It has been considering property in Abingdon near Interstate 95 for the new facility. "We have an option [on the property] until early next year. We'll make a decision then," Mr. Acton said.
