2-car crash in Arnold kills Michigan man, 45

December 01, 1994

A 45-year-old Michigan man has died at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center of injuries received in a two-car accident in Arnold, police said.

Lawrence A. Wichman of Canton, Mich., was pronounced dead Tuesday afternoon, about an hour after the 2 p.m. collision on Route 450 near Manresa Road. Charlotte Sullivan, 34, of the 600 block of Americana Drive in Annapolis, the other driver, was treated for minor injuries at Anne Arundel Medical Center and released, police said.

Mr. Wichman had stopped his 1994 Chevrolet Corsica at a red light on a ramp leading from Route 2 to Route 450. He was trying to follow two cars ahead of him onto Route 450 when Ms. Sullivan, who was driving her 1993 Buick Regal north on Route 450, hit his car on the driver's side, police said.

No charges will be filed against Ms. Sullivan because Mr. Wichman failed to yield the right of way, police said.

Man charged in attack after car accident

An Arnold man was arrested Monday afternoon for punching another man in the jaw after a two-car accident on College Parkway near Bellerive Road, police said.

Daniel Garland, 20, received a swollen and bruised jaw but refused medical treatment, police said. Mr. Garland, who lives in Cape St. Claire, was a passenger in a 1987 Buick that collided with a 1987 Volkswagen shortly before 4 p.m., police said.

A passenger in the Volkswagen got out of the car and walked up to Mr. Garland. The man punched Mr. Garland in the jaw, knocking him into the outside rear view mirror of the Buick and breaking the mirror, police said.

Quincy Lee Williams, 19, of the 1200 block of Stonewood Court was charged with assault and battery and malicious destruction of property, police said.
