Officer in Shock Trauma after collision with truck

November 30, 1994

An off-duty county police officer was in fair condition at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center yesterday after her Jeep collided with a tractor-trailer on Telegraph Road Monday night, authorities said.

Officer Michelle Lyn Mangold, 28, suffered a broken nose and facial cuts. The tractor-trailer's driver, Royal S. Pierpoint, 35, of Randolph, Maine, has been charged with failing to yield the right of way, police said.

Officer Mangold was driving her 1994 Jeep Wrangler south on Telegraph Road about 11 p.m. when the tractor-trailer pulled out from the lot of the Mack Truck Parts warehouse to make a turn into the northbound lane. Officer Mangold tried to avoid a collision, but her Jeep hit the front of the 66-foot-long rig.

Officer Mangold was wearing a seat belt, police said.
