Fashion Bug store opens in Edgewood

Charming Shoppes Inc., which operates nearly 1,400 Fashion Bug and Fashion Bug Plus stores through its subsidiary, has opened the chain's largest Fashion Bug store at the Edgewater Shopping Center in Edgewood.

The 27,800-square-foot store features sportswear, career wear, outerwear, lingerie and accessories in junior, misses and plus sizes. It also carries fashions for girls and for men.

Charming Shoppes opened its first store in 1940 in northeast Philadelphia. The business flourished, the company expanded, and in the 1960s the name of the stores was changed to Fashion Bug.

Charming Shoppes became a public company in 1971, trading stock on the over-the-counter market.

The company has its headquarters in Bensalem, Pa., a northern suburb of Philadelphia.
