Czech club tops Mount, 84-74

EMMITSBURG -- Pardubice of Prague, Czech Republic defeated Mount St. Mary's, 84-74, in an exhibition game last night, recording the first victory of its U.S. tour.

Jari Traka led Pardubice with 18 points, a game-high nine rebounds and five blocks, and Vladan Vahale scored a game-high 25 points.

Chris McGuthrie led the Mountaineers with 24 points, but made only eight of 23 shots, including five of 15 from three-point range. Michael Watson scored 16 points and Matt Meakin grabbed eight rebounds.

The Mountaineers, playing their first exhibition game of the season, fell behind by as many as 23 points in the second half before a 14-1 run pulled them to 79-69 with 3:26 left.

Pardubice called a timeout to regroup and scored four straight points after the break to extend the lead to 14 points with 2:31 remaining.

Mount St. Mary's opens the regular season Nov. 25 at Penn State.
