Move over Rhett and Scarlett!

November 13, 1994|By Knight-Ridder News Service

Rhett and Scarlett are brought together tonight by CBS, the same network that last Sunday reunited "Cagney & Lacey" and later this month plans a wedding for the Six Million Dollar Man and the Bionic Woman. Here are a few re-pairs the network hasn't gotten to yet:

The couple: Nick and Nora Charles. The vehicle: "The Thin Man Returns -- Again."

Plot summary: Nick and Nora, having finally confronted their drinking problems, join Alcoholics Anonymous, where they learn that they're co-dependents.

Casting: William Powell and Myrna Loy being not available, producers opt for Scott Bakula and Shannen Doherty.

The couple: Joanie Cunningham and Chachi Arcola. The vehicle: "Joanie Loves Chachi: The Return."

Plot summary: Chachi and Joanie break up after a record company persuades him to dump her as his backup singer in favor of a blonde whose father has said he'll bankroll their first release. They get back together after Chachi learns that love is more important than fame.

Casting: Scott Baio reprises his original role, but Erin Moran's place is taken by Shannen Doherty.

The couple: Prince Charles and Princess Diana. The vehicle: "A Royal Reunion," a 16-part miniseries.

Plot summary: Having told the whole world he doesn't love Diana, Charles goes off to sulk in Ireland, where he works to convert farmers to organic methods. Meanwhile, Diana dons a brunet wig and a Southern accent and follows him to Ireland, where she inexplicably calls herself "The O'Hara" and stops wearing corsets. They meet in a field, where she explains to Charles how to tell when onions are ready to pick, and he falls in love with her -- for the first time.

Casting: Timothy Dalton and Shannen Doherty.
