Woman suspected of shoplifting flees store security

November 10, 1994

A woman who tried to shoplift five cartons of cigarettes from a store in the Sisko Automotive Center store Tuesday afternoon fled before she could be taken into custody, county police said.

A security officer at the store in the 5800 block of Southern Maryland Blvd. observed the woman enter the restroom shortly after 5:30 p.m. When the woman emerged, the security officer noticed bulges under her coat, police said.

As she was leaving, a clerk and the security officer ordered the woman back into the store, where they recovered the cigarettes. While they waited for police to arrive, the woman ran out of the store and drove off in a dark green 1981 Pontiac. The security officer took down the tag number and gave it to police, authorities said.
