Catalog delivers the goods: ingredients for Thai cooking

Holiday squares

With the holidays approaching, everyone could use a recipe for a quick treat. Just in time, Baker's Chocolate has introduced Baker's Premium White Chocolate Baking Squares, six squares in a package, with a suggested retail price of $2.09. Baker's is offering a free new 16-page recipe booklet for treats in both white and regular chocolate. Marble Bark

Makes about 1 pound

6 squares semisweet chocolate

1 package (6 squares) white baking chocolate

1 cup walnuts, toasted, divided use

Microwave semisweet and white chocolates in separate medium microwaveable bowls on high 2 minutes or until almost melted, stirring halfway through heating time. Stir until chocolate pieces are completely melted.

Stir 1/2 cup of the walnuts into each bowl. Alternately spoon melted chocolates onto wax-paper-lined cookie sheet or tray. Swirl chocolates together with knife to marbleize. Refrigerate 1 hour or until firm. Break into pieces.

Preferred Dining

More than three dozen Baltimore restaurants are among the 106 dining establishments in the new Taste Preferred Dining program, launched early last month.

The program provides diners with a variety of discounts. Among local restaurants participating are Spike & Charlie's, the Brass // Elephant, Jai-Hind, Taverna Athena and Tabrizi's.

The "Taste Preferred Dining" book, which covers fine dining, comes with the "Casual Fare" book, which offers similar programs for establishments such as fast-food restaurants, florists, and attractions such as Busch Gardens. It also has a travel section.
