Pedestrian dies after 2 cars hit her in Ellicott City

November 04, 1994|By From Staff Reports

A pedestrian died yesterday after she was struck by two vehicles as she attempted to cross U.S. 40 in Ellicott City near Plum Tree Drive, county police said.

The victim, whose name was not released, was walking across the eastbound lane of U.S. 40 -- from the south side to the north side -- with a friend about 3:10 p.m. when the accident occurred, police said.

An eastbound Ford Bronco swerved in an unsuccessful attempt to avoid hitting the pedestrians, police said. The woman was then run over by a Mercury Sable heading east, police said.

The victim was taken to Howard County General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 4:30 p.m. The other pedestrian was not injured.

Police said they were investigating the accident last night, and they refused to release the names of the drivers involved.
