Police arrest local man in threat to kill ex-wife

A Brooklyn Park man was arrested Tuesday morning after a threat to kill his former wife, county police said.

Jess Wayne Williams, 29, of the 600 block of Surfside Ave., was charged with battery and carrying a deadly weapon with the intent to injure.

The incident occurred shortly before 1 a.m. Deborah Ann Mitchell, 28, told police that Mr. Williams was in the process of moving out and had come to get his tools. The couple argued, then Mr. Williams grabbed Miss Mitchell, held a star knife to her throat Williams grabbed Miss Mitchell, held a star knife to her throat and threatened to kill her if she didn't give him the tools, police said.

Mr. Williams put the knife in a black pouch before an officer arrived, police said. Officer David Frendlich found him standing near a friend's car. Police searched him but found nothing.

Officer Frendlich noticed a black pouch on the floor of the car's passenger side, police said. Inside the pouch he found four small star knives and two large ones. Police said Mr. Williams admitted owning the knives.
