Man stabbed in fight outside Ralph Bunche Center

November 01, 1994

A Lothian man was in good condition at Anne Arundel Medical Center yesterday after being stabbed during a fight outside the Ralph Bunche Community Center in Harwood Saturday morning, county police and hospital officials said.

Pervis Erashano Sharps, 19, was treated at the medical center for a 2-inch stab wound to his lower right abdomen, police said. Mr. Sharps told police he was trying to break up a fight outside the center shortly before 12:30 a.m.

The fight started as a crowd was leaving a party at the center in the 300 block of Mill Swamp Road. Mr. Sharps was pushed down as he tried to break up the fight. When he got up, he was pushed down again and felt a sharp pain in his right side.

Mr. Sharps was not able to identify his assailant because of the darkness and the number of people around him, police said.

Tourist's rental car stolen near hotel

When a visitor from Georgia left his rental car at the front of the Loews Annapolis Hotel over the weekend, someone drove it away, city police said yesterday.

Kent Miller of Heritage, Ga., told police he gave the keys to his rented 1994 Lincoln Town Car to a hotel attendant Saturday and went inside. The attendant put the keys in the ignition, left the doors open and went inside, police said. The car disappeared minutes later.

The next day, police said, they stopped an Annapolis man driving what they believed to be the missing car.

The driver, Tyler D. Hampton, 24, of Bloomsberry Square was arrested and charged with theft, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and driving with a suspended license. Mr. Hampton was being held on $5,000 bail at the county jail.
