Video conference to discuss violence

Howard Community College will sponsor a free interactive video conference, "Breaking the Cycle of Violence," from noon to 4:30 p.m. tomorrow at the Hickory Ridge Building at 10650 Hickory Ridge Road.

Topics will include the current state of violence; alternative ways to view aggressive and troubled youth; peaceful and positive conflict resolution strategies; school and community-based intervention and prevention programs; collaboration across agencies; school safety; and support toward systemic change.

The video conference will feature the Rev. Jesse Jackson, president of the Rainbow Coalition; Sarah and James Brady of the Center to Prevent Handgun Violence; Joycelyn Elders, U.S. Surgeon General; Al Shanker, president of the American Federation of Teachers; and Ed Zigler, founder of Head Start.
