Patapsco advances on penalty kicks

Senior Todd Lookingbill scored the game-winning goal to lift Patapsco (7-5-1) over host Parkville, 7-6, on penalty kicks in a Class 3A North Region first-round game yesterday.

After remaining scoreless through regulation and two overtimes, both teams batted to a 3-3 tie in the first round of penalty kicks. However, the Knights missed two of the next five penalty kicks as the Patriots only missed one.

Patapsco goalkeeper Mike Griffith made 18 saves.

1A North

* Joppatowne 12, Harford Tech 3: Aaron Szager netted five goals and two assists to lift sixth-seeded host Joppatowne (8-5) over visiting and 11th-seeded Harford Tech.

The Mariners jumped out to an 8-0 halftime lead.

* Havre de Grace 10, Milford Mill 0: Sean McCone and Brock McDonald scored three goals each as visiting Havre de Grace (6-7) defeated Milford Mill.

Jason Hartsfield also added two goals.

2A North

* Elkton 5, Overlea 3: Elkton (10-3) broke a 1-1 halftime tie by scoring four second-half goals to beat host Overlea (9-4).

* Loch Raven 5, Catonsville 0: Mike D'Angelo scored two goals as Loch Raven (10-3) shut out host Catonsville.

* North Harford 5, Pikesville 0: Keith Smith scored twice and had two assists for visiting North Harford's victory over host Pikesville.

4A East

* Old Mill 3, Queen Anne's 0: Joe McNally, Ron Chapman and Tim Ward each scored as host Old Mill (4-7-2) defeated Queen Anne's (10-3).
