Drug raid ends with arrests of 2 men, teen girl

Two men and a 16-year-old girl were arrested Wednesday night after police raided a Severn home and found suspected cocaine and marijuana and a loaded .38-caliber handgun, police said.

Police went to the house in the 1900 block of Arwell Court shortly before 9:30 p.m. Narcotics detectives had obtained a search warrant based on neighborhood complaints about drug activity at the house, police said. Undercover officers had also bought drugs at the house, police said.

The officers seized 8.3 grams of suspected crack cocaine; 6.5 grams of suspected marijuana; $34; packaging material; smoking devices; and the handgun, which had the hammer cocked, police said.

Kennard T. Smith, 20, of the 4600 block of Park Heights Ave., Baltimore, and David Petty, 29, who lives in the Arwell Court house, were each charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a handgun in the commission of a felony.

The Severn girl was charged as a juvenile and released, police said.

Man robs Rite Aid on Defense Highway

A man robbed a Rite Aid store Wednesday evening after leading two cashiers to believe that he had a gun, police said.

The man walked into the store in the 2200 block of Defense Highway around 6:30 p.m. He went to the cash register, put a candy bar onto the counter, then demanded money from both cashiers. The cashiers told police the man put his hand into his jacket pocket as though he had a gun.

The cashiers gave the man money and he ran off with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.
