Peter Angelos denied yesterday that he is actively pursuing a third NFL team, although he said he is open to the idea if he is unsuccessful in luring the Los Angeles Rams or Tampa Bay Buccaneers to town.
Denying a report on Channel 11 news Tuesday night, Angelos said he thinks more teams may become available but said he has had no contact with them and declined to specify which team or teams would go on the sales block.
"I just have a sense," Angelos said.
Angelos has spoken with Rams officials several times in recent months and has offered to purchase a minority stake in the team if it moves to Baltimore. The team also is talking with St. Louis about a move.
The Rams indicated they would decide by the end of this month where they will go, but it appears the decision will be delayed, Angelos said. Rams officials have not said publicly when a decision will be made, but some people familiar with the deliberations say it could be the end of November.
"That is not necessarily a bad thing. One could argue that it is a good thing," Angelos said of a possible delay.
