Man arrested in $40 theft from store

October 27, 1994

A Baltimore man was arrested Tuesday after $40 worth of merchandise was stolen from a Caldor store in the Cromwell Field Shopping Center, police said.

About 9:30 a.m., the store manager approached a police officer patrolling the light rail stop across the street from the shopping center and told the officer he had seen a man steal merchandise and hide it under a white coat, police said.

The manager told the officer he had followed the man to the light rail stop and watched him get on the train's last car, police said. The officer accompanied the manager to that car, where the suspect was identified.

Two packs of batteries, one pack of T-shirts and four packs of men's boxer shorts were on the floor behind the suspect, police said.

Forest Crockett Jr., 37, of the 2400 block of Dumfries Court was arrested and charged with theft under $300, police said.
