Man leaps to freedom from car of his abductors

October 25, 1994

A Baltimore man leaped out of a moving car Saturday night after a man and a woman abducted him and tried to rob him, county police said.

Anthony Smith, 27, suffered cuts on both hands but refused medical treatment.

Police said Mr. Smith jumped out of the car as it pulled onto the Interstate 695 entrance ramp from Ritchie Highway.

Mr. Smith told police he was walking north on Ritchie Highway near Church Street shortly before 11:30 p.m. when a car pulled up next to him. The people in the car asked Mr. Smith whether he needed a ride, police said. The woman grabbed Mr. Smith. The man helped pull him into the car.

The driver drove south on Ritchie Highway and told Mr. Smith to give him $20 because he was "a stickup man from way back," police said.
