Clemson beats Maryland, 4-2

Miles Joseph knocked in a rebound off goalkeeper Russell Payne yesterday to lead Clemson to a 4-2 win over Maryland before a crowd of 1,560 in Clemson, S.C.

The Terps (10-4-1, 2-3 in the Atlantic Coast Conference) had leads of 1-0 and 2-1, and never trailed until Joseph's goal at the 83:26 mark.

Coach I. M. Ibrahim, who reportedly was suspended for hitting an assistant coach, returned to the sidelines for the first time in five games for Clemson (10-6, 2-3).

Women's soccer

* UNC-Greensboro 4, Towson State 0: Kim Rosenburg and Shannon Carey each scored two goals as

UNC-Greensboro (9-6-2) downed host Towson State (5-9-1).

* College of Notre Dame 3, Goucher 2: Kelley Stephenson scored at the 15:07 mark of the second half to lift host Notre Dame (13-4) over Goucher (12-2-1).

Field hockey

* College of Notre Dame 2, Sweetbriar 1: Julie Desmond and Teri Tobash (John Carroll) scored in the first half, leading Notre Dame (10-9) over host Sweetbriar (8-8) in the Women College Tournament final.

Jen Naccari (St. Mary's) had an assist for Notre Dame for a single-season school record of nine.
