Old Mill girls soccer coach Bruce Sponsler won his 100th game yesterday when his No. 14 Patriots defeated visiting Southern, 9-1.

Old Mill improved to 8-4 heading into next week's Class 4A, East Region playoffs.

Sponsler, in his ninth season, is 100-27-1, including five region championships and two state titles.

"This says that we've had an excellent staff, which gives me a big advantage," he said. "I owe a lot of my success to my friends. And, of course, I never could have done it without the girls at Old Mill. They're responded very well to the fundamental program we coach here."

Included in Old Mill's record this year are one-goal losses to South River, Severna Park and Arundel. The Patriots have won three in a row.

"This is the best four-loss team I've ever had here," Sponsler said.
